Gas Furnaces - Economical Home Comfort
Gas furnaces are rated by AFUE, which stands for Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency. This number is a percentage of how much of your fuel is used to heat your home and how much is wasted. The higher the AFUE rating, the greater the efficiency. For instance, if a furnace has a rating of 80%, the furnace converts 80% of the fuel that you supply to heat your home and 20% is lost out the chimney or other means. Older furnaces waste as much as 50% of every energy dollar. Most furnaces still in operation today are 60-80% efficient. The trend has been to replace these relatively inefficient furnaces with Condensing Gas Furnaces. In fact, as of January 2010, the new minimum efficiency standard requires that furnaces have a minimum AFUE of 90%. The most efficient furnaces in the industry, Lennox Condensing Gas Furnaces, reach AFUE efficiency ratings over 98%.
Note:As of January 1 2010, the minimum energy efficiency standard for residential gas furnaces is 90%..

Most often overlooked is the electrical consumption of Gas Furnaces. The average Furnace blower may be circulating as much as 263 Million cubic feet of air each year (on low speed). Now that's allot of air. In fact, that much air actually weighs over 10,000 tons! Your furnace blower works pretty hard, and uses allot of energy! Fortunately,
Newer Variable Speed ECM blowers, or ECM 2 motors, in many new furnaces can move air more efficiently at a fraction of the cost. Savings are most often $300.00 to as much as $500.00 per year! This is becoming even more significant with rising power costs and the HST on energy bills.

Imagine a furnace that not only makes you feel perfectly comfortable, but will make you feel even better about your decision month after month. That’s the power of the SLP98V, which uses exclusive Precise Comfort™ technology to significantly reduce your heating costs.
The EL296V uses a variable speed motor that reduces electrical use by two-thirds, compared to a standard motor. Plus, two stages of heating minimize temperature swings, so you can save on utility bills without sacrificing comfort.
